5 words never to use in your sales copy

I have recently got connected to the copywriter and internet marketeer Jim Edwards and he just share with me some invaluable advice that I want to make sure that I pass on to you.

What are the 5 words you should NEVER use in your sales copy, web site or emails?

Here you are:

  1. BUY – that makes people think they will have to give you money – instead use the word CLAIM
  2. LEARN - that makes people think they will have to work hard and non of us really like to do that – instead why not use the word DISCOVER
  3. TELL – well we never like to be told to do something – so instead change this for REVEAL
  4. THINGS - if you want a word to cover a multitude of ‘thing’ you want to cover then use the alternative of TIPS, TRICKS and TECHNIQUES
  5. STUFF – yes there are aways some things that you want to share – so what not refer to then as INSIDER SECRETS.

As I was listening to Jim I was making a mental note of these and reflecting on where I had used inappropriate words in my copy.  You might want to review your opy too and make it less off putting to your reader and more enticing.  Seems to me it could be a secret weapon to increasing our appeal to our clients and prospects.
