Abundance – does it really work to give great free advice?

One of my clients this week raised an interesting issue with me about whether in a free presentation they were to give if they were giving so much information away people would not want to invest in their programme.

Well if you’ve met me you will know that I am from the ‘GIVE TILL YOU DROP’ school of thinking.

Time and again both I have realised greater success through this approach.

As an example just this Monday I was a guest expert on Michael Port’s ‘Think Big Revolution’ where I was providing guidance to his community of big thinkiers on how to write an on line press release.

Even so I say it myself the advice i gave I know others would sell as a CD for over US$100 – Michael himself siad he was blown away with the content – in fact he later contacted me to help him recraft his press relase for his book launch this week.

While I am not a PR expert, it is one of the areas I guide my clients in and clearly my style of delivery and the depth of content connected for a number of people – within an hour of the call I received a number of emails thanking me for the information I had shared.

Two of those emails were specifically about working with the individuals involved – one being a student of the amazing T Harv Eker and another a very successful Financial Advisor who has had amazing success guiding their clients to become millionaires.

I could go on an reel off many more examples of similar situations.

Yes of course once in a while you will find someone who takes your ideas and your time repackagesit as their own – I’ve only had 2 experiences like this after working with hundreds of professional services firms in th last year.

One was a designer who works in branding themselves  and who took my strap line and added it to their email signature after seeing me present at a workshop.

The worst experience was only in the last month or so.  Someone who I had dedicated around a day of free consulting to help her reshape her business ended up using my model for growing your business and turning it into a workshop that she then got people to sign up to.  And what made it worse she delivered it to communities of people I connected her with.  Now that did hurt.

But I’m learning to step away from my emotional response to these situations as a mindset of scarcity definately will not nurture or grow your business.

So I’d encourage you to make sure that you do give freely of your expertise – it will get you noticed as an expert and with that the clients will flow.

As to my client – as you can guess my answer was give freely of your expertise – her paid programme is full of information she will never be able to share all her 20 years of expertise in an hour.  And for those who enjoy the free presentation but don’t join her programme – they frankly are just not her ideal clients!
