Build buzz about your brand on You Tube

You_Tube.gifWherever you look these days, from press releases online, to blogs, to traditional print media people are talking about You Tube.

To be honest I had not spent any time taking a look at the You Tube site until last week.

I just didn’t feel called to do so.  That is until I attended an event sponsored by the Irish Internet Association and specifically a presentation by David Mahon of Clientwell.

David was talking about social media from blogs to podcasts as strategies to drive people to your website and he referred to a couple of case studies of companies who were using You Tube to build awareness of their brand online.

I would encourage you to take a look at these examples as they are entertaining but I think they will give you some ideas as to how to get buzz building for your brand.

Here are three case studies…

Case study 1 - Where the Hell Is Matt

Matt’s story can be found at his website, but in summary he has been travelling the globe and videoing himself.

Stride Longlasting Gum came upon his video and sponsored a second trip which lasted 6 months, visiting 39 countries.

The video is fun to watch and at the end you will see the endorsement by Stride.

You can find out more about Matt, Stride and the video here.

At the time of writing this post, the video has been viewed on You Tube around 250,000 times and goodness knows how many thousands of people have been talking about it.

Case Study 2Dublin Coastal Development

A video about development in Dublin and the creation of a new community being built including hotels, designer shops, restaurants and apartments.

This video is sponsored by Funda, a new property website.  Decide for yourself if the video is real or could it become a reality?

So what relevance does this have for professional services firms?

Case Study 3The Big Seminar

I took the opportunity having been encouraged by David Mahon’s recommendations on You Tube to search for examples of professional services experts using You Tube and came across internet marketing expert Armand Morin’s interesting approach.

He used You Tube to promote his Big Seminar – you can find access to an example here where he interviews one of my business mentors Alex Mandossian.

In other words he has repurposed his pre-event teleseminars to be video’s which means that he is building his brand in one of the most viewed websites on the internet.

It’s certainly got me thinking about what and how we can use You Tube to build our brand on the internet.

My prediction is that increasingly in 2007 and beyond companies will be exploring how to use You Tube to build buzz for their products and services and that it will become like Google where if we don’t have a presence we won’t exist.

So if you are a marketeer, I’d recommend you start considering how you build your business case for investing in creating viral video’s as part of your marketing plan for next year.
