How compelling is your 2007 vision?

This week I met with one of my Biz Growth Academy clients and along side specific strategies for 2007, we discussed we also reviewed how performance has been for him in his practice over the last couple of months that we have been working together.

Next year his target is to exceed over €1 million turnover which is will be some feat for a service professional leading a company of just himself and one other team member.

Over the recent months he has put in place a more robust financial tracking process, has begun to raise his profile in the industry, has renamed the company and has a plan in place to develop his online brand along side some exciting plans for building his platform in 2007.

One of the notable things that has changed for him in the last few months is the fact that he has decided to “up his game” – and that in particular means his expectations of himself, his people and his performance.

He’ll admit that he has been coasting for a few years.  In fact he was not a business leader, he was in fact turning up to work each day to do a “job”.

This lack of personal vision and inspiration has seen itself manifest itself in a number of ways in recent weeks.

As an example he was begining to create his success team and appointed two new team members – one person left after a few weeks as it was not the right fit, and the second emailed him on the day he was due to start to say they would not be turning.

He just had not set the bar high enough in terms of his requirements so he recruited people who were not the right fit for his business.

In fact he has been tolerating many things in his business and in professional and personal relationships through lack of asserting what he wants and needs from others.

Behvioural change is very challenging for us all and takes time, effort, willpower and support to make behavioural change that is sustained.

Invariably we won’t make those changes unless we both want to (we rarely take action because we need to) and we see that staying as we are is wither going to be intolerable so we want to move from where we are today, or the future is so inspiring that we can’t wait to make it our daily reality.

As his business mentor, I connect with him formally every two weeks, but at the end of the day, he as the leader of his professional services practice is the one who has to put one foot in front of the other to make his vision a reality.

So as we come to end the year and we consider how far we have progressed, where it’s not been as we had planned, consider how much you really wanted to make it happen and if you therefore put sufficient energy, passion and resources to bring your vision of success to life or if you have tolerated your own performance.

So for 2007, how compelling and inspirational is your vision of success?  If it’s not, you’ve still got time to go back to the drawing board so you create a platform to have your best year ever.
