Recent research in the UK Business Barometre (May 2006) indicated that the UK small business community is far from up to date embracing new technology for business with only 23 per cent of small businesses feel confident in their knowledge and understanding of new tools such as blogs, podcasts and Really Simple Syndication (RSS).
This is not at all suprising as in my connecting with small businesses, I would see that less than 10% would actively have looked at a blog with many business owners having heard of the word but are unsure what it is or how it can apply to their business.
Over a fifth of small and medium sized businesses are missing out on commercial opportunities because of their failure to adopt and embrace new technologies and update their IT infrastructure as reported in a nationwide study reported by Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) – Startups – May 2006.
The Mail on Sunday, 14th May 2006 reported that only 55 per cent of UK businesses have a website that promotes their products and services.
Technology does not need to baffle or bewilder or be expensive – the key is to find a technology partner or coach who can support you in identifying what are the appropriate solutions for your business so that you are able to access your target audience and expand your reach.
As an example over the space of a few hours we created and published a web site available to promote the ‘Women in Business’ radio show and with access to previous recordings which is proving invaluable in showcasing the programme to our listeners and also to forthcoming guests. What’s more, this was done without external technical support.
Remember that technology is an enabler and should support your marketing and sales strategy but an effective technology strategy and plan can expand your brand and your success.
