BarCamp Dublin – 21 April 2007

Today I had my first experience of updating a Wiki.
I am guessing that many readers of my blog won’t actually know what a Wiki is so hear goes – effectively it’s an online data base that is open to a group so that they can edit it and update it.
Wiki’s are a great tool to encourage and support communication and knoledge sharing across communities.
Now while I blog and podcast, I don’t manage any of the technical infrastucture of our business. You could say that I know so much I am dangerous.
I am fine when it comes to the strategy of technology for business growth having spent a number of years leading the organisational development agenda for a large technology company back in the days of mainframes and midrange machines and before PDA’s and outsourcing (when we outsourced it was to North America). It’s just the execution that that you would not want to talk to me about!
This means that my knowledge of HTML is very limited so when I came across the Wiki I was thrown slightly. Thank goodness there was a preview screen so I could make sure that I had not messed up the Wiki for all the other contributors. Especially as it was a Wiki for a technology event!!
The Wiki was for BarCamp Ireland. I know your next question is what is a BarCamp?
A BarCamp is a gathering people who are passionate about technology and want to share experiences. The event is geared towards sharing knowledge and learning from others and there is a policy of encouraging active participation in all discussions.
You can find out more about BarCamp Ireland here. The next BarCamp is taking place in Dublin on the 21 April 2007 and there is no cost to attend. There is however an expectation that you will engage and actively participate.
So if like me, you are interested in discovering more about th power of technology in growing your business, why not join me at BarCamp Dublin in April. You’ll recognise me as the person who looks like they need a translator when it all gets too techy!
You can see the speakers and the topics tat will be covered and register to attend BarCamp Dublin here.
