Deloitte Fast 50 now blogging

You might recall my blog post on the subject of blogging being an untapped opportunity for the top 50 Irish companies.

Damien Mulley, host of the Irish Blog Awards has recently reviewed the Deloitte Fast 50
Technology companies in 2006 (an awards programme for the fastest growing technology companies in Ireland and Northern Ireland) to establish how many of the Deloitte Fast 50 awards winners build their brand through a corporate blog.

Interestingly, the numbers of corporate blogs in the Deloitte Fast 50 has increased by 200% since the 2005 Deloitte Fast 50 awards – in real terms that means there are now 2 corporate blogs as there were none in 2005.

This is intriguing given that the Deloitte Fast 50 companies are more likely to be aware of business tools such as blogging and podcasting than most of us.

I reported back in November that Irish marketeers predict a signifant increase in spend in online marketing for 2007.  It was not clear from the MII survey how that investment would be spent – it could be enhancing websites, banner adverts, pay per click campaigns.

Come on Irish marketeers, give blogging a chance in 2007.

Blogging is low cost and is a great tool to build the profile of your brand and engage in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders, from investors, the media, clients, potential customers, business partners, employees and potential employees.

Euro for euro I believe it worth you testing out and comparing the effectiveness of your marketing spend in blogging and other new media tools alongside traditional marketing programmes.

You could establish a blog for far less than you will invest in just one above the line advertising campaign and what’s more it will have longer lasting impact and enable you to engage with your stakeholders.

And for those of you in the Deloitte Fast 50 I am sure that Damien himself or his extended network of blogging colleagues could assist you get your blog up and running fast – the Deloitte technology team no doubt have capabilities inhouse too.

P.S. In my post about blogging being an untapped business opportunity for the top 50 Irish companies, I made an irresistable offer of no-cost consulting to the first CEO or Marketing Director of a top 50 Irish company who was interested in exploring blogging as a marketing and communication tool.

To-date no one has been in contact.

If you are reading this and are the CEO or Marketing Director of one of the top 50 Irish corporates, or if you know someone who is that may be interested in exploring establishing a corporate blog, you can read my original post here

It covers some interesting research data about the media sources that consumers trust with blogs being the second highest trusted media source – please feel free to pass it on.
