Following on from the subject of blogging, in The Podcast Sisters Podcast we cover in the fourth show, how to build a website that works.

We share our acronym G.O.O.G.L.E as a reminder of what we need to consider when building our brand online with our website.

So get ready to listen to the show and take notes as we cover:

G for Graphics. What is the intention, are they relevant?

O for Offer. Do you have well written and relevant content?

O for Orientation. Make sure the navigation is simple, jargon free and easy to use.

G for Google Analytics. Be sure to measure what is working, how people are finding you and where they visit on your website.

L for Learn by user testing. Remember all strong brands evolve and adapt based on learning and feedback.

E for Engage. Connect with your website vistors through telling stories about the product or service and remember the power of photo’s, audio and video’s online to enrich the experience from your website visitor and encourage them to stay longer on your website.

Designing and creating a website is piece of cake these days. It is no more difficult than using a word processing program or drawing a picture on a blank piece of paper indeed. The best thing to start with is to consider yur reasons for doing so. It is very important to have a goal or target audience in mind. To create a website, there are a number of good free and paid builders available. Fortunately, some are quite easy to learn. In fact, after a few hours of playing around you could get a professionally looking website up and running! And if you want to add in a few more advanced tricks you can insert these without having to really understand the way they work – you’ll fathom out as and when you need to. I think the message really is just experiment and try different things out until you find something you can work with.

Thanks Jeff. I also think we need to consider whether we want to learn the skills or whether we want to outsource the development of your website.

For small businesses I would recommend using a blog platform such as Typepad.com or Wordress.org, but I would still recommend sourcing expert advice in terms of website useability and optimisation.

Just becasie the ability to create your own website is easily avalable now, does not mean that we should if we want to build a compelling and professional brand online.
