PicApp: A Free Source For Editorial Photographs

If you are looking for photo’s for your blog to bring your stories to life and want to ensure that you have the rights to use them, you might be interested in exploring the new free service offered by PicApp.You can register for an account and then search their data base. The photos are displayed in a flash media file and can be embedded on any web page, just like you do with video’s for example from YouTube.

According to a report at Gigaom, PicApp has advertising embedded in the photos and has a revenue share with the photos agencies.

It’s not going to be relevant for some of us who take the approach that we don’t have advertising on our business blogs and I know there are many people who prefer not to have flash on their websites or blogs.

However if you are looking for photographs that you can use on your blog if covering a news event it is a site worth exploring.

For example you can select editorial content if you are writing about current events, enterrtainment news, current affairs and sport and gain access to the same photos used on the covers of magazines and newspapers.

I did try to embed an image to accompany this post but for what ever reason even with the HTML editor switched off, I could not embed an image. But it does work as Chris Brogan shows on his blog - thanks for the reference to PicApp Chris.

I just have one more solution to offer people reading this article, have you ever heard of Triond (www.triond.com) before?

It’s a huge publishing network with a vast number of sites dealing with almost every type of writing, photography, video and audio.

What I wanted to mention is that they have on site that you can submit your original photos and get PAID for it opposing to other pic sites like Flickr which actually make money of of you instead of for you. The other big benefit is that all pics are open to the use of anyone for free! Thanks again for the great post.
