In Conversation With Philippe Carr, EUIreland.ie: Engaging With Opinion Formers Through Social Media

One of the people I had the opportunity to connect with in 2008 for the first time was Philippe Carr, the host and facilitator of the Organise Activate Influence conference hosted by the European Commission Representation and the European Parliament Office in Ireland.

Philippe was generous to spend time with me at the end of what must have been a very busy day for him. We discussed the opportunities available for local and European policy developers and politicians to connect and engage with the local community and opinion formers through social media communications.

Philippe also shared some thoughts on the transition from a Web 1.0 organisation to an organisation that is taking it’s first steps in engaging with new media as part of their engagement and communications programme.

If a small representative office for the EU (often considered a bureaucratic organisation) in Ireland can take these first steps, then that has to give us hope for all businesses in Ireland – shouldn’t it?
