Forum on Public Procurement Promoting Recovery Through Public Procurement: Attend the conference at no cost

Posted by: | Posted on: February 23rd, 2010 | 11 Comments | Posted in: Free resources, Ireland, More clients

I have just received an invitation to a conference that might be of interest to you if you want to tender to the public sector in Ireland. I can not attend the conference but read on if you want to know how you could receive my ticket to attend at no cost – the value of the ticket is €375 plus vat.

The Forum on Public Procurement, which represents many Irish public sector buyers and suppliers, proposes to open a debate on how small but significant changes in the public procurement process can assist in restoring economic confidence, generate economic activity and offer innovative solutions benefitting the procurement professionals, Irish suppliers and ultimately the taxpayer.

Public Procurement is worth in the region of €15 billion annually and supports some 250,000 jobs in Ireland.

I have personally found that many Irish companies are experiencing difficulties in accessing public contracts due to increased competition and changing market conditions.

A one day conference is taking place this week and will be chaired by David McWilliams, and will examine the potential opportunities that public procurement can offer in contributing to the stabilisation of Irish business and the creation of new jobs, while at the same time delivering vital public services of high quality.

The conference details cam be found HERE and is being organised by the Forum on Public Procurement, a not for profit voluntary organisation, established in 1996 and which represents organisations and individuals concerned with purchasing within the public sector in Ireland.

Public Procurement has been traditionally a domain reserved for the really large companies and well known brands. For smaller companies often the tendering processes required are long and convoluted, they require a specialised and dedicated team to reply to. Yet there are technologies out there that could provide the efficiencies the Government needs today and perhaps should have implemented years ago. I’d be grateful for the ticket and would hope to share my experience. Kind regards, Joe

If Align won this ticket we would send an experienced , high-profile business journalist along to monitor the event. We will produce a written summary of key points and make this available to all members of the Institute of Management Consultants and Advisers and any other interested networks. We will also post a copy of this summary on our website where it can be accessed free-of-charge by anyone who wishes to read it.

Small companies are often precluded from public tendering due to time contraints, lack of resources and inexperience dealing with large tenders. The conference would really help us to develop our skills and our business through potential new avenues. It would be a serious enhancement to our new business strategy. If we were to win the ticket we should share our knowledge in numerous ways; we would share the key points on our blog, we would include the key points in our training programmes where appropriate, we would include tips from the event in our bi-weekly tips newsletter (currently reaching 1500 people) and we would share the knowledge freely with clients.
